Meals In Ha Giang Hiking Tours
Ecolodge | Homestay | Meals | Guide & Porter | Hiking | Market days
If you're planning on taking a hiking tour in Ha Giang, one of the
questions you're likely to ask is what can you expect from Ha Giang
meals whilst on tour?
The answer is, you will be generously fed three times a day, at
breakfast, lunch and dinner. Usually, breakfast and dinner is provided
either at the hotels that are providing you with accommodation
overnight, or with an authentic Vietnamese family if you have chosen to
undertake a tour which involves a home-stay. In isolated villages
bottled water is rarely available so the local guide will boil water for
drinking. If you need bottled water on a regular basis, simply inform
your guide who will arrange for a porter to attend a market to purchase
some.
Here is a quick guide to authentic Ha Giang food:
BREAKFAST
Breakfast is generally bread or fruit. If you are staying with a
hiltribe, your breakfast will be hygienically and expertly prepared by
your guide and porters, and will be a mix of bread, jam, butter, milk,
instant noodles, instant coffee and seasonal fruit.
LUNCH
On trekking days, your guide and porters will take food along with them.
When it is time to stop for lunch, your guide and porters will prepare
lunch for you. This will usually be fried rice or noodles with meat and
vegetables, eggs, fruit, tea and instant coffee.
DINNER
Once we have stopped trekking for the evening, your guide and porters
will prepare dinner and arrange sleeping space for you. Dinner is
usually the biggest meal of the day, with steamed rice, chicken or pork,
vegetables, spring rolls, and local wine. Your guide and porter will
prepare a different meal each day so you get to experience a variable
cuisine. Sometimes our meals become a gathering and social event for the
entire village.
